What is Advent?
Advent is the season of preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ at Christmas, beginning four Sundays before Christmas Day. This year, Advent begins on December 3 and continues until Sunday, December 24th.
This Advent we will focus on the theme of hope, because we all need it! The great news of Christmas is that Christ entered into the mess of our humanity to redeem and renew the brokenness that we have caused. Advent helps us to look at the places where things have been broken and invite God to enter in to our lives afresh and anew.
How to get involved
We are a people changed by Jesus, worshiping as Anglicans, and loving our neighborhoods and the world. Here are a few key means of formation in our parish this Advent:
Come on Sundays
We will meet at 10am every Sunday at Rivendell school (5700 Lee Hwy, Arlington, VA) to hear God’s word, pray, and share in communion. We are excited about the ways that people will be able to participate in the morning at Rivendell and yes, we will be brewing delicious coffee. So come at 9 am and catch up with friends before we even start!
Reading and Digesting the Scriptures
Follow along with our sermon series from the beginning of Advent through Easter (December 2 – April 1) with our scripture reading plan for the Gospel according to Matthew.
Also, Bible Institute Of Los Angeles (BIOLA) has published a very helpful advent devotional project which includes art, video, and scriptural readings. We invite you to use this site for your growth and encouragement this Advent season.
Lessons and Carols
On December 17th, visit our Lessons and Carols service! We’ll be singing together, hearing from God’s word, and enjoying a church-wide luncheon afterward!
